Wayfarers was what they called those of us who could make the leap. I got to wear linen robes, gold sandals and a white hat with a wide brim all around it and carry a symbolic staff. They were awestruck to see me and probably happy to say goodbye.

I got tired of them and their temple real fast. The robes cramped my style. The ceremonial wine gave a buzz but there weren’t any temple virgins or magic mushrooms or anything like that.

The rest of their world sounded as dull as the part where I’d found myself. There was no way I could go back to my home world and that’s where the portal in the sacred grove would take me. Trying to find another exit, I wandered the neighborhood looking for shafts of sun at midnight, slits of dark in the middle of the day.
